FAQs

What services does Perrywinkle Accounting provide?

1

Perrywinkle Accounting provides full-service accounting support for small businesses, including monthly bookkeeping, bookkeeping clean-up, and optional tax preparation for established clients.

Full-service accounting means handling the ongoing accounting and compliance tasks required to operate a business, not just bookkeeping.

This includes tasks such as:

  • Sales tax preparation and filing

  • Payroll processing and payroll reporting

  • Responding to tax and agency notices

The goal of full-service accounting is to keep financial records accurate, obligations handled on time, and information ready for both internal decisions and external requirements.

What is your primary ongoing service?

2

Our primary ongoing service is monthly or weekly bookkeeping. This includes maintaining accurate records throughout the year so financials stay consistent, reliable, and usable for decision-making, tax filing, and outside reporting.

What is bookkeeping clean-up?

3

Bookkeeping clean-up is a focused service used to review, reconcile, and correct existing bookkeeping records. It brings books up to date and ensures financial reports reflect what actually happened, rather than estimates or inconsistencies.

When is bookkeeping clean-up needed?

4

Bookkeeping clean-up is commonly needed:

  • Before tax filing

  • Before loan or grant applications

  • Before providing financials to potential investors

  • After switching systems or bookkeepers

  • When books are behind or unreliable

While often associated with taxes, clean-up is equally important for financing, compliance, and planning.

How is bookkeeping clean-up different from monthly bookkeeping?

5

How do you help clients understand their financials?

6

What does “tax-ready bookkeeping” mean?

8

Do you prepare tax returns?

9

Do you work with CPAs, tax practices, or bookkeeping firms?

10

We use recorded video reviews to walk clients through their financials and show how everything fits together. This allows you to see how transactions flow through the books, how reports connect, and why certain numbers look the way they do.

For many clients, seeing the full picture makes the information clearer and more useful than written reports alone.

How far behind can bookkeeping be for clean-up?

11

Monthly bookkeeping maintains clean books going forward.
Bookkeeping clean-up corrects issues that already exist.

Many clients start with clean-up and then transition into monthly bookkeeping.

Do you offer emergency or same-day bookkeeping?

12

Yes. We provide bookkeeping clean-up and overflow support for tax practices, CPA firms, and bookkeeping firms - handling clients they refer to us, and supporting seasonal capacity constraints. All work is prepared and/or reviewed by a CPA before being sent to the tax preparer.

Books can often be cleaned up even if they are several months or multiple years behind. Scope and timing depend on transaction volume, account complexity, and available documentation.

No. Our work is methodical and accuracy-focused. Rushed bookkeeping increases the risk of errors and downstream issues.

How do I know which service I need?

13

Yes. Expense analysis is a core part of our work.

We review spending to identify phantom charges, duplicate subscriptions, unused accounts, and cost creep that often goes unnoticed over time. This includes looking at where money is actually going, how expenses have changed, and whether spending aligns with how the business operates today.

Most people aren’t “bad with money” — they simply haven’t been taught how to manage it. Expense management is a skill, not a personality trait. Our goal is to make spending visible and understandable so better decisions are easier to make.

Tax-ready bookkeeping means accounts are reconciled, transactions are treated consistently, and financial reports can be used for tax filing, lending, or third-party review without rework. No assurance or opinions are provided or issued on internal financial statements.

Tax preparation is available upon a referral only basis, or for clients who:

  • Complete a bookkeeping clean-up with us, or

  • Use our monthly bookkeeping services

While we stay current on tax law and continuing education, our focus is on accurate accounting rather than high-volume tax work. Tax preparation by Perrywinkle Accounting is optional; you are always free to choose your own tax preparer.

Do you help analyze expenses and cash flow?

7

How does communication work?

14

If your books are behind, inconsistent, or being questioned by a CPA, lender, or other third party, bookkeeping clean-up is usually the right starting point. If your books are already clean and you want ongoing support, monthly bookkeeping is typically the best fit.

Most communication is handled asynchronously, with clear updates and documentation provided as work progresses. Meetings are used only when necessary.
